Three Oaks Elementary participates in the Final Mile every year, which raises money for Operation Smile. Students stay after school to get their miles recorded and on Shamrock Weekend they run the final mile of the marathon. https://www.operationsmile.org

Virginia Aquarium: Inspiring conservation through education, research and sustainable practices is the primary goal of the Aquarium and its Research & Conservation Division. We develop and provide support for regional, national, and international projects that reflect the Aquarium's conservation mission and global animal collections. These projects contribute directly to the conservation of wild animals and wild places.

The Virginia Aquarium is located in Virginia Beach. They have programs for all ages. You can go out on a Dolphin Watching Tour or spend some times in the trees at the Adventure Park. It's a great place for a field trip! https://www.virginiaaquarium.com

Oceana Naval Air Station: We should utilize our Navy personnel here in Hampton Roads. They are a great source of international experience. They have been to many countries and have lived abroad. The military is involved in many humanitarian efforts not just conflicts. A great global/local connection.

Below is an example of how you can take your standards and make them global. I use countries in Africa a lot because we are a
Global Pathway School and our 1st grade region is Africa. But you can use any region of the world. Language Arts is probably the easiest area to globalize. All you need is a book depicting another culture/tradition and teach the standards you always teach: comprehension, fiction/nonfiction, writing etc.
